Heartbreak Ridge wasn't bad. Not 100% accurate, but it'll do

The Red Badge of Courage hands down.

All quiet on the Western Front a close second. The Best Years of Our Lives is a tie.

Modern war movies' focus is on particular events or on explosions/FX.

The old war movies focused on War itself and its effects on the Soldiers fighting them.

Full Metal Jacket and Heartbreak Ridge were pretty accurate at depicting life in the Corps. Not sure about the actual battle scenes for Viet Nam or Grenada, but the boot camp scenes from Full Metal Jacket and training scenes from Heartbreak Ridge were pretty damned accurate.
