Unfortunately the US military does not have any in stock and has no plans to issue any in the foreseeable future. HOWEVER, if your friend will present himself and a FUNCTIONING light sabre to his Commanding Officer he will be given official permission to carry his own personal light sabre.

To my knowledge, Jews have always worn yarmulkes in the military. Usually under their caps and such.

I never knew it to be against regulations.

The yarmulke is fairly small and kept in place with pins usually. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with this. Especially since the device is usually only worn during worship services and inside temples, etc.

With the exception of those dudes who wear the curlies, I've never known a Jew who wore the yarmulke at all times.

Although it may be true that no one joins up with full knowledge of AR 670-1 doesn't mean that it isn't taught to you. And once you do have knowledge of the regulations then you have a choice. Serve your term and leave or Soldier up and stay. Some high speed crazies tend to take the road that shouldn't be traveled and start doing things that can jeopardize their futures all in an effort to leave. The thing is that this is a volunteer military. Long gone are the days of the draft. If people don't check out what they are volunteering for then it sucks to be them, they should've been smarter than that. I did my homework before I signed up many moons ago. I was well aware of what I was getting into. Maybe the problem isn't with the regs and the standards as they are, maybe it's with people not arming themselves with knowledge before they make a major life-altering decisions.

OK, let me explain. Way back in the dim distant past of the 1940s "Blacks" were not allowed to serve in combat positions because they were "different" and "weren't capable of withstanding the stresses" and "allowing them to serve would cause moral and unit cohesion problems".

Those "Blacks" didn't want to "follow the rules" that they "knew all about when they joined" and had the rules changed.

Tell me, exactly what sort of a force would 1ID be able to field if we enforced "The Rules" the way that they were back in the 1940s and didn't let "Blacks" into the combat arms?

PS - Did you know that the rule against allowing "Blacks" into the combat arms totally ignored the historical facts that "Blacks" had been serving in the American military since the Revolutionary War (and actually volunteered to serve in the Continental Army at a higher percentage rate than "Whites" did).

PPS - Did you know that the American government was MUCH better at fulfilling the promises that it made to "Whites" who had served in the Continental Army than it was at fulfilling those same promises if the veteran was "Black".
