SSG Colon,
I am a recent retired SFC and former Master Driver. In order to be a Master Driver at any level, you just need to complete the two week course. Doesn't matter the location of training or who have that training as long as you've completed the standard Army Master Drivers course. I believe this still comes out of AR 600-55 (1 May 2017).

Sir, I am a civilian who has served as a Master Driver, Kandahar Afghanistan. (2010/2012). At that time I was given a MFR (memorandum for record) by the company commander.
Recently I have been contacted by a civilian contract company to again 'apply' for the position, but a 'in camp' stipulation says that I must now by certified by our US Military.
Sir, do you know of a US Military Base that offers a Master Driver Class that would allow civilians to attend.

The MDT course is geared at people in a brigade level organization that are slotted in that seat. You oversee all the Master Drivers in the brigade. There are a small number of slots available across the AD and NG components, even if you aren't in the slot you may still be eligible to take the course and I highly recommend it. I took it in January and learned quite a bit.

I took the MD course on line 4 years ago, and received a certificate prior to deploying, the unit had to have a MD, I've been in now 35 years and deployed twice haven't had a problem with GCSS Army not honoring it. Is there something else that needs to happen.

SFC. Gould, I am working out at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, and I have had a CDL Class A since 1995. My Name is Richard Rivera (SSG) U.S. Army. Nevertheless, I have been trying for years to get into a Master Driver School or even take the course online as you have Sir, where on line might I be able to go, in order to try and take the course.

I attended a 2 week "in-house" course to become a Company MD. Never had to do anything beyond that, but that was 10 years ago...so yeah, I have no idea.

Michael Armendariz - I do not, unfortunately. The course I went through was Battalion level and for Soldiers only. Not sure how you'd be able to find out something like what you're looking for, sorry I couldn't be of an assistance.

I am now trying to contact a civilian who teaches a Master Driver Course @ JBLM in the State of Washington. SGT Hayden, thank you for your response.

SSG (Join to see) With the recent switch to GCSS Army, even though an individual may have completed a BN level course on the basics of what a Mast Driver does and the responsibilities that may be involved, they might still need to go through a course on GCSS Army. From what I have heard, that with this switch only Master Drivers with this training have access to licenses unlike the old system where a SAMS clerk could access this information. Do you know anymore on this SFC Michael Sanderson ?

SPC Allen,
I wasn't aware of new policies requiring Soldiers to attend further training in order to be a Master Driver at the BN level or higher. Since I took my 40 training course, the policy has always been the same. Yes, we've always had a SAMS-E clerk, but this depends on the unit. I'm Aviation so I've had both where I as the Master Driver do all the records and licenses issue. And I've had it where I was in a unit with the luxury of a clerk provided by the BN Motor Pool who did the administrative portion. Otherwise, further training beyond the 40 hour Master Drivers course at your local installation I've never heard of. I have not been in the position for a few years since I was just stationed at and retired from a remote duty assignment. I hope someone who may have the correct answer can help SSG Colon in his quest for the right answers.

SFC Michael Sanderson I wouldn't necessarily say it is a new policy, but in the 16th MP BDE at Ft. Bragg, they had us attend the training and the certificate we received at the end was titled Master Driver, so I am just assuming. It is something I would check into I suppose.

SPC Allen,
My certificate too from the 40 hour course stated Master Driver. I was simply eluding to the point that I'm unaware of any further training to be at the BN level or higher.
