I got an email from my branch manager yesterday saying “I STRONGLY encourage you to seek the ESB ASAP”

I’m currently being slated for my next assignment and I don’t think any unit requires you to have an ESB- so my guess is they said to seek it for career progression rather than for a future assignment.
Any ideas?

The uniform can serve as a resume. Seeing a proficiency badge sends a positive message to those you serve and your superiors. Can a complete tool be badged out? You bet. As a chaplain assistant, I would take every opportunity to demonstrate your willingness to go the extra mile and earn a symbol of excellence.

SSG, go for the ESB. The way the promotion system works, and with your CMF being a small field, would you not want every little bit of help that you can get to stand ahead of your peers and get promoted sooner?

SFC, I agree completely. I’m not opposed to seeking out the ESB, I was just curious to why my branch manager of all SNCO’s is the only telling me as I’m currently being placed on assignment.

With that said, it’s time to pick a test date for the ESB.
Thank you!

SSG K D - It may be just an opportunity for a senior NCO to mentor you, it may be, that senior NCO is/was a chaplains assistant and they are encouraging you to do what they wish they had done, it may be the branch manager has an assignment where the receiving unit CDR/ CSM has said "see if you can find me 56M with an ESB"

Better yet, send your branch manager an email and thank them for the mentorship and encouragement in seeking the ESB.... How do you think it will help me in my career?

SGM,
I completely agree and I’m willing to be mentored by a Senior NCO in my Corps. I have sent them an email thanking them for the mentorship and asked them if they have any other course recommendations, such as Battle Staff to make me more board. competitive

It's a feather in your cap. When it comes to being considered better than your peers it is all about adding to your record book. If you are up for a choice assignment or promotion having extra street cred can and will be the difference maker. You most definitely should be working toward it. I can confirm that the Navy and Marine Corps is very similar in this regard.
