Must be different in the Navy, when we did barrack inspections/searches in womens barracks, the area was cleared and there was no one permitted in the space except the inspectors.

LTC Mo Vanderslice - In today's military it may be appropriate attire, at least In the USAF and USGG. Duck!

MCPO Roger Collins - USCG? I thought that we were discussing the military, not the Sea Scouts. I thought that a military issued slip was authorized in the USAF as long as its color does not clash with the airman's eye color - that's just what I hear (Except all A-10 and AC-130 pilots, flight crews, and ground crews of course!).

LTC Mo Vanderslice, are you pulling my leg again? Pretty soon I'll have to buy new stockings.

There is no way this could be considered appropriate. I'm assuming the CO was a male and this was a surprise inspection. It's common sense, plain and simple, that a company commander ensure female soldiers are decently dressed before entering their barracks, not only to be respectful of the female soldier'modesty and privacy, but also to refrain from the appearance or possible implication of sexual harassment on his part.

Thank you, CPT Elizabeth Foster. This CO in question, was indeed a male. I don't think that it was a surprise inspection; but I really can't recall. This was during the Cold War.
You are absolutely correct. And, I would think that this male CO would have been embarrassed as well.
Maybe the whole Chain of Command was inappropriate in their behavior. I don't know.
But, at some point, the Executive Officer, came into the mail room, where I was working- and pinched my buttock. This is making me almost cry right now. I felt like less than a human being, less than a lady, less than a soldier.
And some Warrant Officer fondled my breasts in his car. I immediately escaped from that.

I am so sorry to hear that you were treated in such a disrespectful manner. You have nothing to feel ashamed of. Please don't let them influence the way you feel about yourself or your service. From what I can tell, you are an amazing human being, a lovely, respectable lady, and a loyal, hard working, dedicated soldier, despite the behavior of your less than honorable leaders. I've heard so many stories like yours, and I have a few of my own, mostly from my days as an ROTC cadet. Thank you for your service and for sharing your experience. Hold your head high, soldier, I salute you!
