You didn't provide the key information. Do you already have one? If not, grab and keep hold of it. First think of having tools before having toys. For general urban, a pump 12 gauge is good medicine. For rural, an AR has tons of versatility. For concealed, great options out there.

Second thing is to consider and honor the source. Remember Dad will ask you every now and then about how the shooting with it is going. If you don't want your answer to come from the pucker hole, keep that in mind.

Third is insurance. In the grand scheme of things, an AR is cheap insurance. Stock up with at least a couple thousand rounds and it will give you some peace of mind.

Fourth, make sure you stay kosher with it. Several states have serious restrictions on magazines, magazine release methods, etc. Transporting is also not something to be ignorant on.

Now you can have fun with it.

What an opportunity to own a weapon w/o a Federal/state record!

If no agency is informed, they will never know! America needs more secured, unregistered guns!

Just don't gift it in Washington and maybe some other states. Illegal to do so without the background check stuff and registration.
