Not good- 4=no re-admission in any service w/o HRC waiver- don't hold your breath JKK means Misconduct- Drug Abuse, that's going to hurt job searches particularly with PD's.

For a JKK separation code, DoD policy states that an under other than honorable conditions discharge is normally considered appropriate; however, a general (under honorable conditions) or an honorable discharge may be granted. Your husband dodged a bullet in regards to the characterization of his service.

As MSG (Join to see) stated, from a VA point of view, the only benefit impacted would be the G.I. Bill. The G.I. Bill is the only Benefit where you must have an Honorable separation (General under honorable conductions doesn't cut it), but everything else (disability compensation, etc.) remains eligible.

Best bet is to have him contact the VA rep/VSO closest to where you now reside, they will be able to provide the best and most current information for him about his benefits...best of luck to ya'll.

This is good advice.Your husband should be able to get the information needed to see what benefits he can qualify for!

What did your husband say his benefits would be? That is part of the chapter briefings/counselings given to him by the Commander per their recommendations. Now, as to what the higher ups say in agreement or taking away or adding benefits, that will be all part of the packet/paperwork. 95% sure your husband lost the GI Bill Education benefits. He may retain all of the other benefits. But again, it's going to be what was recommended and what was approved.

Janice Davis - Well....then that's that. However....if you really want to know/confirm, have your husband contact the VA and ask what benefits he will/will not be getting due to RE Code, Discharge Type and Separation Code.

Janice Davis - How long was he in the military? If he was discharged before he served at least 24 months of service, no VA benefits. The GI Bill stuff went away with the General Discharge

I got a general under Honorable condition after pissing off a base commander for disobeying his direct orders during my last three weeks to discharge. However I had six years of perfect service and I wrote the board of appeal ,and within a month my discharge was upgraded to full Honorabe condition. Has your husband try appealing his discharge. He should write the appeal board with a good explaination of why his discharge should be upgraded. I hope this was helpful. That why I am a Cpl, got busted down from a E-5 after five years as a Sgt.

He needs to find a VSO, check with the VFW or American Legion for one. Then he can complete DD Form 293 and submit it. Make sure you get the form a va.gov source because there are third parties who try to charge for FREE VA forms. As of late I have been seeing a lot of these and from what I can ascertain, the boards are being rather lenient because of so many multiple deployments that many of us never experienced. I worked with a veteran who had been deployed 9 times. His discharge was similar to this and the board upgraded him to Honorable. From what i am hearing, it is better to take the court martial, where a lot of these are being dismissed once the totality of service is reviewed. GOOD LUCK!!

He should have gotten a briefing as part of the out-processing. He needs to see an advocate- a trained VSO from like DAV, VFW, or AM Legion- they can expound on what the briefing said and his options.

He's entitled to ALL OF HIS BENEFITS...with the exception (maybe) being access to his GI Bill...depending on how long he served.

JKK - Character or Behavior Disorder (see also JPC)

JPC - Drug abuse rehabilitative failure

You will have to talk with a vet-rep for further guidance. I personally can not say anything about your question.

What benefits are you looking for ? He is eligible for VA Medical for any service connected condition. However he is likely in a low priority group.

Yes he can still get benefits if he applies for what he's entitled to. The only ones who don't receive benefits are those who were dishonorably discharged.
