I went to talk to my recruiter and he steered me away from a combat MOS to go to a 15 series. This is because I want to fly later on, but I really want to be in the action and not be repairing kinda seems boring. What are your guys thoughts?

Perhaps you did not display a propensity toward the combat fields based on your entry scores and probable lack of decisiveness upon initial review. Wanting to be is not the same thing as actually being in a career field, especially in the military. That is why the Recruiter looks to steer you toward a career field that you are more likely than not to succeed. Sometimes that can fail the individual, but you do have an opportunity to discuss this with your command and seek an additional combat related MOS as part of your career development. If you have issues of boredom, then an Infantry MOS may not be a good choice for you.

This brings to mind the old question. If a doctor tells me I’m dying of cancer, should I get a 2nd opinion? YES. By all means. I was not Army but, I did spend 3 years as a recruiter. All branches of the military have good recruiters and all have bad recruiters. There are recruiters out there that will tell you anything or what you want to hear. By all means, find another recruiter and get a 2nd opinion. As much as it pains me to say this, being a former recruiter. At the enlisted recruiter level, you’re just another number, a warm body, a contract. If you don’t eat liver, why would you buy it?

Don't be too hard on your recruiter. In a 15 series, you won't have to sleep in the mud---much. You'll probably get hot meals on a regular basis. You won't have to shit in the woods, like a wild animal. And you're a lot less likely to get shot at. -----Take it from me-----915 days in the Mekong Delta---Navy River Patrol.

Let me tell you my story in 1978 I was a dumb 18 year old had no idea what to do in life. Went to an Army recruiter took the ASVAB the recruiter called me two days later asked me to come talk to him. He told me you blew the ASVAB out of the water you did not get under a 92 on anything what do you want to do in the Army? I told him I did not really know just needed to get out of my parents house. He told me I am not going to put you in for and 11B or a 92W MOS. You need to go into Intel Aviation or something where you can use your mind. I did not consider myself that smart I asked what I could be doing in aviation back them that was part of transportation he told me and I said sign me up. I owe my recruiter a big thumbs up. I got out of active duty went to Parks College of Aviation earned my Airframe & Powerplant License and a B.S. in Aircraft Maintenance Management. I am now making six figures for a large aviation corporation. As LTC Martin I feel was trying to explain to you when you get out of the military there is little demand for a trained killer.

IMHO, U.S. is transitioning to UCAV, UAS, robot, DNA eugenic War Fighter thus human/humanoid natural birth combat arms MOS needs will reduce-- but they will require maintenance and support MOS.

Pick what you want and not what he wants. If you want to be “in the action” you have many choices but infantry is probably your best bet. 15 series probably won’t help you in flight school, however you may need recommendations in order to attend WOCS so that would be the easiest way to get to know a few.

You need to go where your passion is. This is going to be your job for 4 to 6 years and reclassifying may not be easy once you’re done MOS training and get to your unit. If you aren’t into fighting stay away from infantry. What ever you like try to look for an mos you qualify for and do that. War is hell, remember that!

Do the MOS you want to do it. It's your life, your choice, your 3 years. Don't sign anything that's exactly what you want.
If you want to see action, go to 18X and make sure you're physically fit for it.
