I went to talk to my recruiter and he steered me away from a combat MOS to go to a 15 series. This is because I want to fly later on, but I really want to be in the action and not be repairing kinda seems boring. What are your guys thoughts?

This could be because of your ASVAB scores. If someone's score is low they get placed in "front line infantry". Also repair MOS can set you up for a better civilian job after your first term. Also don't forget, you can ask for another MOS if you find that your 15 series MOS isn't working. But remeber the old saying be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

If you go into that MOS it will increase your chances of employment in the civilian sector. I was a 15T & 15G in the Army, a 6144 & 6092 in the Marine Corps. I tested for my Airframe & powerplant Certification. My training & experience gave me an uppet hand in interviews &selection. I had a great military career 18 yrs (6 active USMC the rest National Guard)

Hay first thing LTC Martin just put it crystal clear, this isn’t Hollywood. If you expect action take his advice. The recruiter has to fill his Quarter where he must fill his position available. Being in action is a ugly word when you see your partner kill or destroy by the enemy. War is no game is another Brother or Sister destroy for life. Take what they give you because becoming a Soldier is a Serious business.

Imagine this. An infantry unit is conducting a super hooah operation. You get the go to.land and pick them up when they are done. All of the sudden as youre landing youre ambushed.

You as a a few chief ( the guys that repairs) starts laying down suppressive fire with a 240B. A machine pumping out massive amounts of ammo. How much closer do you want to be?

This happened.

just because you would not be 11b doesn't mean you wont be in the action.

Do you really think combat is somehow glamorous? Combat is a great way to get shot all to hell or permanently disabled. You can be nice and safe and bored repairing stuff and then Hadji mortars your repair shop....Suddenly....you are in "The action". Be very careful what you wish for.

Your recruiter? Are you sure it wasn't the career counsellor at MEPS? Two totally different guys. Recruiters are discouraged from day one of school to not talk JOBS. Their job is to sell the ARMY. The Career Counsellor who is usually a MSG is the person responsible for getting you to sign the contract. There are times that shortages occur in certain MOS or predictions of shortages are forecast and CCs are encouraged to "sell these jobs" but it is usually Combat Arms MOSs. I would tell you this: if your going to join the ARMY then join. You can have a great career with lifetime friends, travel, education you won't get on any college campus and see some of the best leadership in the world. If you're joining to see the "action" don't waste your time or the recruiters. The action is not like you see in the movies. I hope you join our ranks.

You do what you want to do. Don’t let anyone steer you from it. Keep in mind that you will not always “be in the action” most of the time you will be normal boring stuff regardless of your MOS.
