My secret security clearance expired, but I still have 1-2 years on my contract. What will happen if I don't get approved for new clearance?

How did you let your clearance expire? Ignored the email that was sent awhile ago? Where was your security manager? If you don't get a new clearance, it's no real big deal.....unless your MOS requires one.

I have noticed that civilian security managers don't seem to keep track of when employees' clearances are going to expire. This is my experience the ones I've deal with. I've also seen S2s who aren't tracking people's clearances either.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff that's just sad
You need to contact your security manager. Not having a clearance could affect your job or system access if a clearance is required. It’s an easy fix but you need to be proactive
I will admit, in the past clearance renewal could be a real pain in the ass.
Mine was recently renewed, and I was surprised how painless the process was. It was lengthy, but relatively straight forward, and independent of going through a unit S2 shop and chain of command that just got bounced around.
That said, as a USAR or NG there is a chance it might go unnoticed for a while. It depends on how well your unit is tracking it. However, once it's found it's expired and you need it there will be a world of hurt, and by then the chances of a seamless renewal goes down.
Get it done.
