Navy Nukes out there - do you remember Illegitimi non carborundum, the backwards clock, the modified yellow smiley with one eye and a frown, saying "nukes never have a nice day"?

Do you remember other funny sayings or symbols from Navy Nuke land?

I remember distinctly believing that the giant atom-shaped pedestal in front of the Rickover center probably was a secret crypt, where a zombified Hyman G. Rickover lived, and from which he harvested the souls of NNPTC students to prolong his life as a lich. I also decided that NNPTC, and possibly Goose Creek, SC, as well, was the center of evil and sadness in the world, which is why it's in a smelly swamp with alligators, poisonous snakes, and wild boar.

Fortunately I was a student (twice) and an Instructor, in the Orlando days...

Sounds like something I heard when I was there. Me and a lot of other people on our ship also came to believe that the reactor actually ran on human misery, which is why the Navy always did everything it could to keep the nukes miserable.

Ah......Goose Crick. Lived there for a few years. Many fond memories.

None of those, but they may have been after my time. I still recall two very profane memnonics for the resistor color code from ET school, however.

As an EM, I remember the same mnemonic (BBROYGBVGWGS). What was the "Gold" and "Silver" words? I've forgotten those.

Actually, you left off the "N" at the end of the string. It should be BBROYGBVGWGSN. The "N" denoted none. The GSN denoted the tolerance level of the resistor -- 5%, 10% or None. (I may have the 5 and 10 reversed,)

"Batman Blew Robin Over Yonder Gotham Bridge - Very Gooey Work - Get
Superman Next." (( Alternatively, "Get Some Now" ))

Never heard THAT version, PO1 Tony Holland. The one we learned was about Bad Boys and "sexual assault" regarding young females behind hedges. Sort of.

Anybody know what the GS (and I never learned the "none") stood for in MY version of the mnemonic?

I was briefly an FDO for an 8 in M110 battery, we practiced TAC nuke drills. Never been on the squid side of it.
