Do we require our Soldiers to stand at parade rest anymore. Do we set the example of what right looks like. Are we enforcing standards and discipline?

I find myself correcting NCOs more and more. I can say that at times I wonder what the heck is wrong with NCOs these days and the answer is us. We are the Senior Leaders who must lead by example and correct indiscipline. Coach, Teach and Mentor! Don’t allow mediocre performance and training. Instill pride in those we supervise and train. We can and must make a difference.

SSG Ryan Rodney - I'm am aware there are those that may be lacking as Senior leaders as well. I'm going to make sure I influence those around me and do everything within my professional means to make my fox hole better. Just do what you can do within your area of influence and be proud of the fact you are doing your part and making a difference that you may never see first hand. Good comments and keep being apart of the team.

I say it depends where you are. But in general standard across the army is lacking

Indeed I do. This slackened attitude starts in IET/BCT where Drill Sergeants' hands are tied behind their backs and TRADOC is concerned only about quantity vs quality of "Soldiers" graduated. It only gets worse from there.

You hit the nail on the head. This is the start of the problem that lingers on and on.

When you face the incoming the unit must be unified and authority maintained. I saw this break down during my Vietnam tour. If not people die. I know my time has passed but the principle still stands. 1SG Michael Blount
