New bill proposed to make it a crime to pose as a military member or veteran. Isn't that what Stolen Valor is there for already?

A bill is being proposed to make it a crime to pose as an active duty member or veteran for financial gain.
My understanding is that what the Stolen Valor act was created to do. I like the thought if they are going to actively pursue these imposters. If it is just going to be another bill with hollow execution don't bother.
I agree it is and insult to all that have or are serving and should be handled. I like the jail time and fines but also think they should tie many hours of community service to any sentence and have the work with veterans groups or wounded warriors to see the people they are trying to be like and have insulted. I guess we will see what kind of teeth the bill has if it's passed.

The new bill removes the valor awards limitations and makes any false representation for gain a crime.

Stolen Valor currently only really prevents someone from getting financial gain. You can go around all day saying your a Delta Force Seal Team 6 Pararescue Ranger and as long as you aren't getting anything for it, it is technically legal.
