I was kind of shocked that I haven't seen something about it from all the Marines on RP yet. (I am looking at you Capt Richard I P.).
Here a news story on it.
http://www.stripes.com/news/sgt-maj-ronald-l-green-named-top-enlisted-marine-1.324806
Now I had not really looked at Sgt Maj Green's bio (here it is: http://www.imef.marines.mil/Leaders/tabid/3952/Article/535479/sergeant-major-ronald-l-green.aspx) yet when I seen this quip on everyone's favorite Marine cartoon Terminal Lance:
"Naturally, the Facebooks and the Twitters exploded with questions about why a Marine with no combat experience was fit to lead the Marine Corps over anyone else. To me, this move made the Return of the Peacetime all the more clear. The hard men and women who fought and survived the brutality of Iraq and Afghanistan are no longer needed. As combat deployments disappear, the dichotomy of experience levels will continue to blur, with combat or no combat no longer being a relevant measure of potential or success."

Now I wont say that the good Sgt Maj has no combat experience as he clear has an Iraq deployment under his belt but is likely reference his lack of a CAR.
Regardless of what the Terminal Lance thinks, the Sgt Maj looks squared away with a decade of drill instructor experience. Some of the best CMSAF have been prior MTI's so I can't see that as a bad thing.

As a Marine who served under him while he was the I&I 1stSgt of Bravo Company, 1/23d Marines, I can honestly say that he is one hell of a squared - away Marine who will do his job (advising the CMC and JC) to beyond the best of his abilities. He's one hell of a Marine. He will do us proud.

In the Marines, is there a rank called CSM? (Command Sergeant Major) We have a handful of those but the top NCO is the CSMA (Command Sergeant Major of the ARMY) Just curious,,,,

The Marines does not have “Command Sergeatn Major,” because Sergeants Major are only at “”command.” They do not serve in “technical” leadership roles. The Corps has Master Gunnery Sergeants for those roles.

You can bet the Commandant of the Marine Corps specifically chose the Sergeant Major for some very specific reasons.
Given the Commandant's Guidance recently published, I'll bet the young hard chargers can expect things to be tightened up.
I'd imagine that in addition to the more strategic operational challenges, the Corps is about to tighten up on discipline.
Too many undisciplined things happening that have been tarnishing our Corps. Generally during peacetime and troop reductions, garrison discipline goes up to keep the force sharp.

Gunny,
If that is true about your new SgtMajMarCor tightening up the Corps, I tip my hat. I just wish we could borrow him for the other services as well or at least find his peer with similar attributes. GySgt, your Corps has not been tarnished just needs to be reminded from time to time of those that came before.
