I attended a week long course that was composed of SSG-MSG, CW4's, CPT-LTC and DAC's. On The last day a BG spoke to the group before course completion certificates where handed out. When the BG entered the room the group stood at attention. Once seated he asked a few question to a couple of a NCO's, a couple of officers (MAJ & LTC) and a few civilians. Because he wanted to talk to people, not be worshiped just for being alive. Do you guys also beat your wives and children for not standing and addressing you properly? It doesn't matter that much. AT ALL.

I'm guessing those in the audience asking questions did not stand up while asking.

If the BG was trying to foster a more intimate setting, I can see him not wanting people to stand at attention or make things too informal, though it would probably make more sense for the first person to stand up and tell the audience not to, if he wanted that.

I would expect there would've been some CSM in there that would've corrected the NCO issue along w/ senior officers to fix the other side. I guess not. That's pretty shitty & disrespectful! I think the individuals that didn't show the proper respect should've gotten 4856's. I would've done it, if I was ranking. I think I would've quietly lost my mind on some people first though!
