So if you are below the rank of E5 you are administratively promoted to E5 because you have to be at least an E5 to obtain a commission. However you wear the OCS rank in lieu of SGT. However if you are dropped from the course, medical dismissal, failure to progress, etc... you are reduced in grade to E4, unless you were an NCO prior to arrival at OCS. If you were an NCO then you revert to your previous rank until such time as you return to the course. If you are recycled nothing changes because you still fall under the authority of the school and remain within the school until you class back up.

Sir,
I may not have properly asked my question. If medically recycled, and sent back to home unit for new medical clearance, thus remaining a Candidate, as flagged for these purposes (that is no other action in terms of assignment can occur until you resign your candidacy, become unqualified, or return to and successfully complete school) do you retain the specific status only as a Candidate. This question is asked only in terms of AR 600-20, and not in terms of rank or actual paygrade. Do you remain a Candidate, if you were not removed, and are still flagged to return, only in order to understand this Status question. I am uncertain if my question is or was clear.

SPC (Join to see) So if you are returned to your home unit it is not a recycle, it is a dismissal. If you recycle you do not return to your home unit. You remain at OCS under their administrative control. If you were returned to your home unit you were dismissed from the course. You are no longer in candidate status, you are reverted to whatever your status was prior to you arriving at OCS. So no, you cannot be flagged as a candidate if you came to OCS and then were returned to your home unit without commissioning. I’m curious if you wouldn’t mind elaborating your particular circumstances or giving a little more back story as to what you are experiencing so I can try to be a little more specific.
