How do you feel about Officers and Sr. NCO's being awarded the Bronze Star simply because they deployed. Why is it that if you were a platoon leader or platoon sergeant you are awarded a Bronze Star but joes and SGT /SSG are only awarded an Arcom? I'm aware this doesn't happen in every unit in the Army but I've spoken to a some jr. NCOs and joes and they all say about the same thing. I just want some thoughts on this from other Sr. enlisted and officer personnel if you've seen this happen, or why it happens. I always thought that the Bronze Star was awarded to Soldiers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Is this not the case? if it is, why is it being awarded like a lesser medal?

Should a commander be able to say that they will only give a Bronze Star Medal to SSGs and above? Is this how awards are determined IAW AR 600-8-22? What if a SGT or below has met the criteria to earn a more prestigious award? Why does BDE or higher say that they are only alloted a certain number of awards for deployment or PCS or for an impact award? If your repsonse is "Tradition" or "That's the way it always has been," does that make it right?
