Ok, the Army as a whole is about 500,000 lets say. With that being said, if BIG ARMY said you can get....would you get out of the Army?

There'ss no way id get out I feel as if I have to much to get and give. The way the economy is and all the Chaos that's surrounding it the safest place despite the ups and down the Army goes through in staying in.

This is actually about to happen. The DOD recently released a memo authorizing the services to offer a voluntary separation pay to service members with over 6 years of service. I would guess that the Army will see a version of this in a MILPER by FY 2015.
I think that everyone should view the service in the military as a temporary job, even if it is a career. One day, we all get out and become members of society; many of us become entrepreneurs or enter the workforce after retirement. I plan on staying in until the wheels fall off... but, I love my job.

I am sitting just over 18 years now.... and just got accepted for warrant officer! So I guess my answer would be that I have NO desire to get out anytime soon!

MSG,
I'm interested in how hard the decision to go Warrant being a MSG? Most "walking" Warrants were SGT-SFC, rare to see a MSG make the cross over. I think we had 1 reserve MSG in my class.

I had 2 SGM's and 3 MSG's in my WOCS class in 2007. I was a SFC and had 17 years in. I did it for other reasons but to me these are the soldiers that should be moving up as they have the most experience to fit the position.

CW2 Carder,
The problem of taking 17+ years SFC-SGM would eventually you'll have a shortage of Senior Warrants. It'll be a lot to ask someone with that amount of time to do 10-15 years of Warrant Officer service. Dont get me wrong I see no issue with someone being picked up with that amount of time, but I dont think it should be the standard. I think the ideal time would be a SSG or above with 10-12 years.
