Old Guard Indoctrination Program

Has anyone recently went throught the Old Guard Indoctrination Program? I am on assignment and I want to be as Prepared as Posiable.What goese on durring those three weeks?  I hear that you Inprocess the Instalation and then go right into the Program. How dose that work for Soldiers coming in with familes? Do you Start your Permissive TDY prior to or after?  Im comming from overseas and im shipping my POV, and I understand that housing is located at Fort Belvior. Is there a Shuttle between the bases that runs for new Soldiers? How dose it work if your HHGs or Unaccompianied Baggage arrives while your in this Program?

SSG Blum I would highly suggest that you make good use of the army sponsorship program to get in contact with someone from the 289th. As for the regimental orientation program it will be your place of duty upon reporting to the old guard for approximately 3 weeks you will be allowed time to find housing and stabilize your family however, I suggest you make time to get to the dc area early to take care of this before reporting I also made the move from baumholder to ft myer and this will help ease your transition. As summer approaches TOG optempo increases as we will do more ceremonies so leadership will not be available to always assist you

SSG Blum, you should end up being a squad leader in one of the companies there. You probably won't know what exactly you will be doing until you get there. There are two types of MPs there, ceremonial MPs who march missions and the ones that work the road (at least thats how it was when I was there). Don't worry too much about learning everything about ceremonies before you get there, you will be taught everything you need to know about TOG marching during those 3 weeks at ROP. I would recommend that if you get the chance, try out for one of the specialty platoons, like Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There aren't many MPs who go out for stuff like that, but it is definitely worth it.

SFC Tierney, I have considered the Specialty Platoons. I'm too short for the Tomb Guards. Im interested in a couple of the other platoons, but I think I'll test the waters once im there to figure all of that out.

I'm only wondering about duty positon because I already have my rated time as a Squad Leader, both Garrison and Deployed. I know that I could be placed into the operations cell, Not a Job I care for to much. Id rather be with the Soldiers than anything. So I guess I'll wait and see.

I am stationed at Ft. McNair work closely with TOG (The Old Guard). I can get with my fellow paralegals who are a part of TOG and get you more information. I know there is a shuttle between Ft. McNair and Ft. Myer, called the Myer Flyer, I'm not sure where else it goes from. There is also housing on Ft. Myer, not just Ft. Belvoir. A lot of married Soldiers I know like either on Andrews AFB or on Bolling AFB. I will definitely reach out to TOG for you and see what I can gather. SGT, you are one of the few Soldiers I have met (excluding TOG), that have actually been stationed at Ft. McNair. I was stationed there from 2000-2005 in A Co, TOG. Our barracks building was the big building directly between the gas station and the flag pole, BLDG 47 if I remember correctly. Now A Co is over at Myer :-( It was a great time being at McNair.
