"Old School" Cadences vs. "New School" Cadences

Being stationed in DC has it's challenges. In my DC JAG world we do PT on our own so there is no organized PT. My point is that when I went to my last NCOES we were running and the cadences were so different to me or we'd just stick to the "oooone, twwwwwo, threeee, fooooour". I grew up a Bragg baby.

When I first joined the Army (yes in BCT) we would "talk smack" in our cadences to other formations and raise the guidon, screaming or we would sing the "you can't count to 5, 'cause your brain is fried, off crack and dope....", but apparently now that is "offensive". For me the old school cadences brought esprit de corps to the formation. I mean c'mon who really enjoys a 6mile run in silence?

SGT - Being Old School, I am, by definition, running low on "clean" cadences. Funny cadences are fine. Offensive ones aren't. Knowing where to draw the line = maturity.Â

OH, does anybody remember the cadence about the puppy and table saw?

@MAJ Chris Ballard - nobody enoys animals more than I. Admittedly, I need to be in a particularly warped place to pull that one out, but the Privates enjoy it every now and again.

MSgt Mike Mikulski - That's why I always called those types of cadences far from where anybody could hear them

What I can't stand are the little additions modern Privates add: REEEE-MIX!, WHAT WHAT, and all the like. However, none of my favorite cadences are even called anymore. I prefer cadences that tell stories and know a few that will motivate the crap out of you and also take about a mile to call the entire cadence.
When I went through BCT at Ft. Benning, we sang the cadences rather than discordantly screamed them. "Line & a Pole" was one of my favorites. I tried to call it marching a group of IET soldiers and ended horribly.

I am just going to stay I don't like them at all. If you can sing cadence you are not running hard enough. It has nothing to do with the fact I am horrible at them..... OK, maybe a bit.

For some reason everything my drill sgt ever said stuck with me and he would say the same thing. Ever since then I hated cadence especially when running
