Just want hear opinions of the use of recording devices in training (and combat if applicable). Is it a useful tool? Over or under utilized? Good intentions with not a lot of follow through?

I think cameras (Go Pro and others) should be used regularly. Recording devices offer an unbiased and untainted view of the training. It doesnt have a personal bias it sees what it sees and can be used extensively in the formal AARs to show key points both positive and negative.

I say use them in combat as well. Think if we had setups like the Colonial Marines in Alien (a good movie by the way) but my point on the comparison is during engagements we become focused on the enemy but think of the potential intel goldmines that could be picked up by an unemotional observer, plus this could help with further development of TTPs.

I think any time you can incorporate a new device to help train/prepare anyone in any profession is a good thing. Especially with the size of a GoPro...it isn't going to affect movements etc to a point where it is now a hazard to an individual or a group.

I would think the Military could (or maybe it has) developed a camera that they could use that would be even smaller to mount on a Soldier's helmet.

I think it would benefit all around in training and operations where applicable. There will be times it shouldn't be used but to be able to review and see where you or your team can improve weak points would be beneficial
