I was at hood from ‘11-14’ As a 25b. I’d strive to stay in tactical coma but if they put you in an S shop get certified and learn a different set of skills.

I do not understand what all of you people think happens when you PCS. You are a junior enlisted soldier. You are, in your case, a 25U. You know what grade you are and your MOS. That is going to be your job. Very little is going to change for your day to day work when you PCS to a new unit. Everything that you might actually want to know about the experience can be found on the internet (e.g. things to do in the area, housing, entertainment, etc). What do you think is going on when you PCS? You're suddenly going to be thrown behind the yoke of an abrams and told to lay siege to an ISIS stronghold??? No! You're a commo guy and you will continue to do commo guy esque tasks. This same statement can be edited to hold true for EVERY single soldier who has or will ask what to expect when PCSing to a new unit. In your case, you may be authorized to wear a stetson on Fridays at 1st Cav. Last I was there, they also made E4s and below wear stupid black acorns on their stetsons.

I believe that it is a fair question to ask. I asked on this form when I got orders to hood. Most people share there experiences and give there personal beliefs. And I think that can be beneficial. I also believe that every experience is different from person to person. And there is also a fine line between saying hey I dont like your question, and insulting someone. It is the new army, the old days of hard charging, quit crying, rub some dirt on ur wound and continue mission days are over. I'm just saying take it easy.

SGT (Join to see) - I respect your opinion, but the days of "hard charging, quit crying, rub some dirt on your wound and continue mission days" need to make a rapid and violent comeback before it's too late.

SGT Joseph Gunderson time and place for everything. I agree to a extent. We all leaders.

SGT Dave Mears the fact of the matter is the all support MOSs have different task yes. But as a SPC the asker should be reaching out to the sponsors or requesting one. All this back and forth and thinking that only a COmmo guy would have viable input is part of the problem with today’s softer army. The SM should show up and learn the task but be ready to execute any and all task including none commo as this is a tactical assignment.
