I was there for school in September of 2012.  Honestly, the post has improved since the olden days.  There is a fair number of relatively new structures, there's a decent commissary & PX, and the town by the gate offers most amenities you need.
Be advised, the town hugs the military reservation border and disappears into the interstate within a 15 minute drive. Â It's not large and if you need specialty stores or a place to party, you will be driving for a distance.

Reminds me of my company clerk days, had a troop that went AWOL and when we got him back top told him if he had orders to Lenard Wood he would go over the hill, too, but that is no excuse.
