What's next? Not raise the flag because it makes them feel bad?

Another loss of tradition by the branch that has so little to loose.

I think it's a non-issue.

As much as I enjoyed hearing it when I lived on the installation, I believe that if you are not living on base, then you shouldn't be interrupted by this. Some folks have younger children that they put to bed well before Taps is played and this could disrupt that. You can still pay homage to our fallen heroes by a moment of silence.

I suppose if they played TAPS earlier in the night then there shouldn't be an issue as I would want my kids to hear it as well so that I can explain to them the meaning behind it.

This is blown waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy out of proportion. Every time I lived on base housing, I never heard colors or reveille played. There are some areas where this is inescapable, such as living near the flag & cannon. Then you're out of luck. Regardless, this isn't a big deal to anyone but those directly affected. Let them work it out.

I lived on Ft. Jackson & Ft. Campbell. On both bases, my housing area was too far from the nearest speaker to hear it. However, Ft. Sam Houston, you can forget it. Housing is stuffed right into the training areas, so you hear everything, and Privates are more or less funneled away from housing as they go through post. It's strange, but there's no way to escape it, especially for the houses that are right by the cannon. I'm sure each post is different, but I also expect that there was a reasonable accommodation if they are making an adjustment at Tyndall.

My thought is that 95% of those responding to this across social media don't even know where Tyndall is, what it looks like, or how housing is arranged on post. I just don't think we have enough information to make an educated statement concerning the situation.

Sorry to our new kind. Living on a strategic command base in the 80's with J57 jet aircraft motors powering up at all hours.. Sound of freedom.

Looking at it, it appears to be pretty tiny. I'd imagine the sound of aircraft would be heard much more early and often than Taps. I also lived on Tinker AFB for a year at one point. I don't remember hearing Taps or Colors there either. Either way, I'm so used to them, I might not notice. My wife says she misses the sound of gunfire & the occasional explosion while living on base.
