I've been enjoying freedom of speech and bashing politicians. Retirement is great. You finally get to say what you've been feeling since the day you first raised your hand. I've learned a lot of painful lessons having to navigate the VA and I make sure to pass on what I've learned to the next generation of retired warriors. If I ever get this back pain nailed down I'd love to help the Air Force burn some fuel and start hopping to places where no one shoots at us in the name of Islam.

We bought a "Hobby Farm" in Iowa. Many years later, I'm not so sure it was my brightest idea!!!

COL Lee Flemming - The thing is, I'll start out renting rooms in my house to my friends, housing is so damn expensive up here in Washington, I'm going to wait for a saturation of homes for sale

It started out focused on the Warrior Transition Battalion but has expanded to all Active Duty, Dependants and Veterans. Besides photography there are classes on painting in it's various flavors, sculpture and next year will include pottery.

Define retirement! If you mean no longer under contract with the military and no longer allowed to be employed (forced out at 67-1/2) my definition of retirement won't match yours Sir.

I am 55 years young, on track for financial stability/abundance in 18 (+/-) months and will be able to choose if I work as an employee anymore. So, what do I plan to do once I free myself from the rut, the 40 hour/week grind? More of what my wife and I already do, more helping others in a mentor/leader role, freeing more Mommies and Daddies from *having* to be an employee.

I am not down on jobs. They are crucial. I am down on feeling trapped and not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I am down on A players finding themselves in B games and wanting more.

So, my "retirement" will be marked with that day I can choose, 100% choose what I want to do with every single hour of every single day. More skydiving, more skiing, more travel, more cruises, more property around the world, more (much, much more) time with my wife. After all, that is why I married her! I want to spend more of the best hours of the best days with her, not wait until neither of us can do anything anymore.

The never ending "joy" of learning how to run a spread and smoothing out my technique with my backhoe and other implements. Discovering my Newfie mix loves to catch the output of the snow blower. We do travel for pleasure more but the big thing is what happens when you trade your comfortable environment to a new one. Funny thing, I've been retired for over 3 years and my eyes still open at 0530 regardless of time zone.
