I trained all last summer in Vibram Five-Fingers. I know, I know, they look goofy as all hell. They did however allow me to change up my mechanics, and my knee and back pains went away. This summer I'll be testing out the New Balance Minimus shoe (which looks much less goofy).

I have always believed that if someone is yelling, "extend to the left" or, "in cadence" or, "double time" time is being wasted....
Now, that is not an absolute...50 pushups or a 6 minute mile, you are working me....but I prefer small group PT that is meant to really work you, not feel close to your unit members....
Cohesion run?????

Me personally, I will lift three times a week. My lift days consist of bench press, squat, overhead press, bicep curls, deadlifting and some additional workouts with dumbells. Every other day I'll do a endurance workout followed by a 10 mile bike ride with the resistance cranked up finished off with a 1 mile run. Works out great for me and I enjoy it. I don't take any supplements, just try to eat clean. So far its been working great for me.

Military Athlete has some pretty good workouts that'll get you smoked up. They also have training plans designed to help you max the apft.

I thought the Military Athlete workouts could be used in lieu of, but my unit passed on them because, "PRT is the required fitness regimen for the US Army."

Use it anyway on your off-time, and when you're smoking the rest of the unit, let them know.

SGT(P) (Join to see) I just got me my first pair of actual running shoes, Mizuno Wave Prophecy 2. BEST SHOES EVER! Before joining I was never a good runner, actually I'm not, but these shoes are great! Could be expensive if you get them at Foot Lockers or you can save a lot if you get them at Room Rack Shoes. For working out shirts, there's no better place than $5 and Below, you just don't care about messing a $5 shirt.

SGT(P) (Join to see), I believe that Army PRT, done correctly, is effective. I personally went from a 317 to a 340 (while gaining 15 lbs.) during 14 weeks of Infantry OSUT, on a steady regimen of correct PRT.
That said, I would prefer to stick with light weights, bodyweight exercises supplemented with light weights, and running.

Someone said insanity. I highly recommend it. That and using shakeology. That stuff is amazing when on the go. Its literally 40 dollars worth of veggies and fruits in one serving that only costs a couple dollars a serving. Other than being firmly against everything crossfit because no one performs the workouts correctly (and likely never will!)...I am a big fan of Jim Stoppani's workout programs. He has a PHD in exercise physiology and has shown his plans work. His workout plans and using Advocare supplements has really helped me trim down and build muscle. His use of cardio acceleration is awesome for any cardio-haters out there. Out of all the strength training programs I've tried, his really pumped me up and made me enjoy my workouts.

INSANITY! After a 6 month dead-man profile, it helped me lose 30 pounds and be back in the best shape of my life. There is very little needed and each workout is as effective as the effort you put into it.

Hey Sgt. I think that you could find a good friend in LTC (Join to see). Insanity seems to be his new favorite go to workout as well.
