Project managers, are you a member of your local PMI chapter? Why or why not?

I am a member of the Central Virginia Chapter for networking and training opportunities.
I am. It is valuable both for networking and educational opportunities, not to mention job opportunities (networking....), as well as giving back to the community of practice.
I have been very inactive for the last 2.5 years of mobilized time, but have just started slowly reintegrating as I move towards being a "civilian" once again.
Disclosure: Was the local chapter VP for a while, so I may be biased.

What are your tips for contributing best within the local PMI community of practice?

SGT (Join to see) - I think the absolute "best" (but most time consuming) is to mentor or coach one on one. Second best is participating/leading professional development classes ("How I work with geographically dispersed teams", "Project management with uncertain budgets", etc). Third would be focusing on developing the community itself - putting on socials, attending meetings, etc.

I am (San Antonio chapter) even though I let my PMP lapse years ago. I do not attend much but do receive their newsletter that usually has good information in it.
