Do you like outdoors activities? Both Carson & Campbell offer a variety, and depending on drought conditions, snow based activities in Colorado are wonderful fun. I retired from there in 95 & we stayed til last year. Oldest was @ Campbell x15 years and his wife finished college, got her teaching credential but wasn't in a hurry while raising the kids. Pricing for hones in CO in general is in the stratosphere for lots of folks and very limited inventory. Our house in CO sold in 3 days. You will want to research school districts very carefully. TN has some real academic achievement "issues" with poor reading readiness / competency by 3rd grade. My grandkids are in school in CO in the greater Denver area, where my kids attended school and I find those schools to generally be above average, with adequate support for kids with 504 and IEP needs. I also believe the job market for an advanced degree in CO is likely to be significantly better in the Co Springs area, with opportunities to WFH depending on area of expertise. 8fvyour spouse has to commute to greater Nashville it's a huge time suck, so impacts family life. We actually moved to eastern TN to a "fish camp" property near Watts Bar, purchased before COVID, and my impression is that all of TN is seeing significant price increases and lower inventory as building supplies were impacted x2 years, from drywall to appliances. My degree was STEM--biology, infectious disease research, so after Army retirement, I was in a small biotech for a bit then onto Univ of Colorado medical campus in Aurora. Certainly LinkedIn & Indeed are places to start research for spouse's interests. Also, CO state law requires the job ad include salary information/ranges, not the generic "DOE" (depending on experience) blah, blah, blah. Each county also has an "employment" or workforce office to provide all kinds of support. As best I can tell nothing like that exists in most of TN. Your mileage may vary.

I was never at Carson. My time at Campbell was for me, a little boring. By the time I got to the 101st, I had already done everything they hyped the division up for, ( I was with the 1/327th). The highlight of my time there was conducting the summer camp at West Point, where I got to teach the cadets small unit operations, and patrolling. The outside economy was ok, but you really had to watch, because there were some real grimy people out to take your money. Beautiful cou try though, and as an engineer, you will probably do well in the field.
