Lately like many of you, I've been reading about former Navy SEAL Robert ONeill and his promoting his book and actions in the mission to get Bin Laden. Like all of us, the SEALS have a code of honor that they follow. Our NCO creed says itself that we will not use our position for personal gain. Mr. ONeill's actions have upset many with the SOCOM community. I'm curious to know your thoughts.

SFC (Join to see), I agree with TSgt Joshua Copeland that he will likely be shunned for outing himself.
What I wonder is if the information he's releasing in the press is classified. That's supposed to be against the law and punishable. I remember talk of legal action against the author of "No Easy Day," the book about the Bin Laden raid. Ah, I Googled the book and found this story. It looks like he's having some problems related to writing the book:

The truth is SFC, It doesn't really matter what we think. I really think that he will be another SOC operator that gets his name taken out of and band from the SOC Foundation much like that feller that was on dual survival. He will find himself alone. It isnt even about the code for me. Its the fact that for the most part, our enemy is scared to death of the operators that we have. Not ONLY because of their duties, but also because its kind of like the fear of the unknown. They never see the faces and more than likely if they do, it would be the last thing the enemy sees. That scares the enemy. Now they are able to put faces with that fear which in my mind almost minimizes the Seals. Putting themselves out there in my mind kind of pisses on their past and present counter parts. Slaps the ones that DID keep secrecy in the face and takes away from what they do.

I will let him be judged by his peers. He will, like most that do these kinds of things, have their back turned to him and become persona non-grata at SOF/SEAL events.
