The ration card was a must have in Korea. Without them you couldn't buy the "luxury" items that made home feel not so far away. 30 packs of cigarettes per month, 3 bottles of liquor, 2 six packs of beer not to mention the big ticket items like televisions. Had to have one to buy any of these items.

Gas rations in Germany are on a Esso Card today much like a gas station's loyalty program card, just swipe it at the counter, the clerk verifies license plates and you sign.
Coffee, hard alcohol, cigarettes and some other items are rationed but the Germans have better and cheaper coffee so why even bother?
Heading to Korea next week and hear they have the ration too...yay

Oh yeah! VAT forms to get the 19% Value Added Tax taken off on the economy are worth using once the ticket price is around €50+. If the purchase price is over €2500 then you have to get a special VAT form.
The UTEP program is for the tax on utilities for those lucky enough to live off-post...

They're still issued for cigarettes, alcohol and (thankfully) gas in Italy. Without them it would cost more than 100€ to fill the tank.

Great program, as my wife and I were both military and did not drink or smoke ~ The black market was live and well!
