It is bad enough they decided to take money and put it in TSP, it is the second time they have done it of their own accord.

It was my understanding that those that people that people went into DFAS and opted to do the BRS or take no action and stay with the standard retirement plan. You may want to give DFAS a call and find out what is going on.

That was my understanding as well, and I definitely did not OPT into it. Is it possible to call DFAS, because to this point my only way for getting finance questions answered is to submit a pay inquiry to S1 and pray I receive a response.

You need to contact DFAS first thing in the morning and sort this thing out! Otherwise you’ll end up shafted.

Just go onto Mypay and it will tell you what retirement you are in, it's also on your LES.

When did you join? If it was 2 years or more TIS you should be grandfathered into traditional if you did not opt into BRS. I’d call DFAS ASAP to verify - good luck!

I was Guard for 7 years, and Active for 1 year 8 months, but I have had CHOICE under RETPLAN on the LES, with the option to Enroll in BRS.

So you are upset that they are putting money into a retirement fund for you. You are also upset that they are matching what they are putting in there.

Some people don’t want BRS and have a valid reason for not wanting it. Like me. I already have a civilian TSP account and would rather have an additional legacy pension than matching funds in my uniformed services TSP account.

Yes, imagine if your phone company charged you $20.00 more per month, on the premise that they would give it all back, and then some, after you turned 59 years old, and after currency inflation.

WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION

I care about my finances, I eat at the DFAC every meal, and my DFAC isn't too good. I've saved enough to purchase a house when I make E6, which I think will be a far better investment, and one that I can enjoy immediately and not wait until I am older.

Unless someone forced you to click opt in, I would recommend getting on the phone with DFAS ASAPSGT(P) (Join to see)
