Have you recently went to a CTC where your service is pushing to operate in the austere environment?

How did your unit react to it?

Did the unit get ay benefit from it?

My unit just returned for JRTC where we used the austere environment model and jumped into the box (first unit jump into the box in years). While my unit learned many things during this rotation we got our sixes handed to us by Geronimo.

We had perimeter security but the entire parent unit picked a linear layout in the wood line which strung us out and forced us to overcommit on force protection.

You know it is rough when the 1SG, 2 PLT SGTs and a Soldier are out laying triple strand c-wire because they are the only available Soldiers.

I must say it was a wake up call to my Soldiers and very interesting to hear them say "Top - we are aviation and not Infantry". We are set for a October rotation and I am interested in seeing if we do the FOB established layout or austere environment layout.

My unit is in NTC right now, but I can definitely relate to your experience with the Geronimos.  I used to be a Geronimo (1/509th Inf) back in 2004-2006.  Great unit!
