If only recently discovered that this MOS still existed. I thought most bases had civilian firefighters. In light of this, how can I reclass to 12M? I am currently a SGT(P) HR NCO, and have been since 2009. However, I am a volunteer firefighter with the Aberdeen Fire Department and I start Fire I in September. I am also studying to be an Emergency Manager once I complete my Masters. I believe I would benefit greatly from transitioning to the 12M MOS due to the real time experience I will get on the job. Thank you in advance for any info provided. EDIT: I'm tracking the MOS in balanced and the IN/OUT Calls so no for SGT IN, is there anyway around that due to the special nature of the MOS?

I am seeking to hire Driver/Operators to deploy in support of a large firefighter contract in Kabul Afghanistan. Must have a current secret clearance,
1. Valid State driver’s license
2. Emergency Vehicle Operators certification
3. Firefighter Certifications:
a. Firefighter II (includes Firefighter I)
b. HAZMAT Awareness
c. HAZMAT Operations
d. Driver/ Operator ARFF
e. Driver/ Operator Pumper
f. Driver/ Operator Mobile Water Supply
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Certifications must have been awarded by the Department of Defense (DOD) or any equivalent entity accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro-Board.
I can get you deployed pretty fast (within two weeks) if you meet all the qualifications.
Send me your resume and certifications to [login to see] for immediate review.

I was able to place one SPC in 12M years ago...but going from a balanced MOS to a balanced MOS is not what the Army is looking to do these days.

See your Career Counselor soon to see if you qualify for reclassification.

Normally for medical reasons...but 12M doesn't take medical exceptions.

Other than Firefighter, what other MOS have you considered? Realistically, as a SGT(P), 12M is not going to be an MOS that you'll get.

Understood. Honestly, the direction I need to take my career, more importantly my life is a direction that the army is not going to send me. Because I'm looking for Emergency and Disaster Response experience the army has very few MOSs and assignments that satisfy what I'm trying to accomplish. Other than 12M, the only other Army MOS that would give me experience is Civil Affairs, and that is too far left for this stage of my career and not worth the time I'd have to commit the Army since I am trying to ease my transition out of the Army.

Civil Affairs would be a great change at this stage in your career.

They're accepting SPC through SSG...http://www.armyreenlistment.com/reclass.html

Good afternoon I am about to leave the Army National Guard in TX and transition to active duty. (I already have the conditional release form) I was a volunteer firefighter for 3 years and this was originally the MOS I wanted but the guard did not offer it. Now that the opportunity has come up to reclass I would like to get some help to know how to make sure I get this MOS. please I know this thread is old but I'm hoping I can get some help.

I've read the comments thus far, and another suggestion I would have for you is the Air Force. I hate to suggest a change of branch, but I know from first hand experience, that the Air Force is the better option for that MOS. Also, the MTOE is not helpful for promotion in the NCO ranks in the Army. I hold 12M also, and was assigned as a miltech at Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA. You will have 68 days of training at Goodfellow AFB in TX. FF1, FF2, First responder, HazMat ops, I believe Engine and Ladde Company ops, the Crash rescue. If you have IFSAC/ProBoard certifications, you can proficiently advance to Crash (which was all I had to do) . Www.dodffcert.com has a packet tou can fill out and submit, once a chief officer has signed off on it. Again, you would have to have FF1, FF2, Hazmat Ops, and First Responder to proficiently advance.

Good info thx, but the Air Force wont accept prior service until you have a 90 day break in service. Also if I was to go in the Air Force it would to be an Emergency Manager.
