Republican, Democrat, or other? What do we have more of here? What reasons do you like one party over the other?

I have heard that the majority of the military tend to support the Republican party, although I am sure it is not a complete landslide.
More recently it seems that the Libertarian party has gained a lot of ground among service members.
I am doing a survey to see which way people in this group lean but I would also like to hear everyone's opinions on why they like one over the other, or what would get them to change their minds, or what they do and don't like about each party.

None of the above. GDINP. That's independent non-partisan, which is about all anybody needs to know.

Those "two" other parties listed are not all that different in all practicality. Both wish to expand the size of government for one purpose or another. Both wish to remove us from the idea that the powers not granted the Federal government belong to the States or to the People Respectively. Both parties are interested in growing THEIR dynasties, and preserving THEIR power.
The Libertarian part is interested in adhering to the founding principles and the letter of the Constitution, understanding that government gets it's power from the States and from the People, and NOT the other way around. Libertarians for these reasons know that Rights belong to Individuals and not special interest groups. This is why I am a Libertarian, Politically speaking.

As a whole the idea of compromise and professional politics is out the window. All parties are so polarized in their viewpoints that nothing seems to get done because subject becomes an impasse. Bring back the spirit of compromise and we could see a whole version of America evolve.

Are we limiting our options? I don't see constitutionalist nor do I see American parties

I am a West Point Grad, did my active duty time, and now in the national guard. i was also a former state chairman for the GOP. When I was elected I was the youngest in the country.
Having said that though, I am first an American. I wouldn't consider myself a partisan politician, where party lines mean more to me than getting stuff done. That is what I am frustrated with.
I would say I am a practical Republican that wants to move our country forward with a growing economy, liberty, fiscal accountability, equality of opportunity, and a strong national defense.
There are always people from different parties, sects, and camps that try to take over the establishment. Unfortunately in my time in politics, the biggest thing I learned is that what separates many Americans aren't necessarily values or beliefs, but egos and pride.
I had to deal with that more than anything as the chairman. Some people like to squabble for the sake or squabbling so they can feel relevant and important. unforunately those that have the "scorched earth" mentality don't see the long-term damage that it does.
So coming back full circle to the question, I am a republican and proud to be one. but we all have a lot of work to do to make our country a better place, and much of it rests on keeping the end in mind, not partisan politics or letting egos get in the way.

Sir I concur. Most Citizens come up with problems to the politicians to solve which in turn the politicians start the blame game, excuses and on and on...I much rather listen to a politician that comes up with a solution to the problem and implement the solution then follow up. Don't see much of that any more, hard to trust any politician out there, not too many to trust. Maybe we should go back to basic politics, or we're too late...

That is the problem with BOTH Political Parties. They are quick to point the blame at each other, but have no real solutions to the problems. The Veterans' Party of America is a solution based Party. Our platform is based on solutions, not just rhetoric like the GOP.

Ive been a supporter of the GOP since the days of Ronald Reagan. In almost every election that has occurred since I became legal to vote, I have voted Republican. I have voted for 2 Democrats in those years, and I have regretted doing so. As far as my political views, I tend to stay in the center, but on certain issues, I lean towards the right.

The real problem seems to be the classifications. I know a lot of people who are so disenfranchised by both ruling parties, some are declining to state.
The real issue is the masses are not represented anymore. It is the plutocrats and the extremists that are running the show. It is time to take back our America, reinstate the laws and provisions of our Constitution, and let common sense prevail once again.

I do not align myself politically with either party in power today. Â I was registered as a democrat until the communist Obama was elected and I could no longer support the platform the democrats stood for. Â In my state you must register as either dem, or rep. to vote in open primaries, so I changed my party affilliation to republican. Â I have a hard time with the moderate element of this party because they too, do not follow the will of the people. Â Too many RINOs have crossed over and supported the legislation of the untra left, which only supports the most radical of agendas, homosexual marriage, gun control, and big government. Â That is not what Founders stood for, not is it what the Constitution stands for. Â I agree with you Jeffrey, it is time for some good ol' common horse sense to get us back to our past greatness.

Today's liberals are not the same as yesterday's liberals - classic liberalism was about liberty and the expansion and protection of that liberty, even if the issue was unpopular or controversial.
Now, the label of Liberal is synonymous with neo-Marxism (aka socialism / communism). This is what has turned the Democrat a Party into a The Government Party, and the Establishment GOP into the Democrat-Lite wing of the GOP.

MAJ Derrick J. Indeed Sir. Classical Liberals in the vein of Jefferson, was when "Liberal" meant in step with Liberty.

I registered as a Democrat in NY because they have a closed primary system in that state and I've leaned towards the Dems lately. However, I've voted for Republications, Democrats, Libertarians, and Green party members during my voting history; I tend to give priority to my evaluation of the individual candidate for office over that person's party affiliation.
Now that I'm back in Virginia, I'm (officially) politically unaffiliated again, although I'm no fan of the Tea Party so GOP candidates who swing too far right will lose my respect. I prefer moderates, like former Sen. Jim Webb, who was really a "Blue Dog" Democrat. Of our present senators (both former governors), I prefer Mark Warner, another centrist Democrat with strong business experience.

BECAUSE REPUBLICANS ARE TO THE POINT CLEAR SIMPLE DIRECT HONEST AND HAVE VERY MUCH SUBSTANCE AND THE DEMOCRATS HAVENT GOT A CLUE AND NO IDEAS AND YES SOME PEOPLE ARE STUPID THEY VOTED SO THIS MUST BE WHAT THEY WANT???

I'm very Centrist and don't subscribe to any of those three parties or platforms exclusively. I tend to lean conservative on economic or defense issues, and liberal on social issues.
With the libertarian agenda, I really have no idea where I stand because I haven't run into a level-headed libertarian yet; the only ones I've seen are the ones that seem to be buying into all the conspiracy nonsense.

I am in the same boat as you. I don't particularly like any of the parties but the one that seems the most inline with my leanings is the Libertarians but I do agree that they all, in my experience, do seem to have some sort of conspiracy leanings.

The biggest conspiracy I can come up with is that the federal government wants to keep getting bigger more intrusive, and wants ever more of the fruits of our labors to do so. This appears to be the case regardless of who is in power.
