I have 5 years army national guard and 19 years active army, still in the active army. Do I qualify to retire from the active army? My LES says I have 24 years Time in Service.

Reserve/Guard time only transfers over to Active Duty for pay purposes. Retirement from them does not. You have one more year to go to hit 20 Active Army years to retire.

That would also depend on active duty time while in the Guard (Annual Training, some schools other than just for training And such things as this. Contact the State you were with and see if you can get a retirement points statement and that would help you to know what your AD time is.

You generally need 7200 points for AD retirement (20X360) an AD year is 360 points regardless of 365 or 366 days in a year. So that being said 19X360=6840, leaving 360 needed. If you did five years of just A.T. In the guard (5X15=75) leaves 280 days AD time To reach 20 years. The other Guard time will be factored in after the 20 years is completed. 5 years X 60 points =300 so if you got out at 20 AD your retirement pay would be based on 20 years Plus 300 days=20.83. Do not make the mistake that the guard good time comes into play towards 20 other than AD time like ADSW and such.

Your active duty service date is based on active duty time such as AT, ADSW and others but guard time does not change the active duty requirement and will come into play after the 20 year AD is satisfied

Once you hit 20 Active years, you'll be eligible to retire, but those guard years WILL count for pay, so that's nice...
