RP Community, would it be a good idea to have an RP legislative delegation to go to Washington and talk to legislators about our concerns?

It's a noble suggestion, but it would likely be more effective if each of us here took our ideas to our local veterans' groups, participated consistently in local elections, and perhaps considered running for office where possible.
At the end of the day, I believe platforms such as RP provide a good "sounding board", but do not constitute any entity in and of themselves. Each of us belongs to a community, state and nation we have most certainly earned the right to have a hand in leading.

LCDR (Join to see) I certainly agree that we should be proactive in our individual communities and run for offices.

What concerns? Where would the funds come from? We currently have major groups like DAV, VFW, and Paralyzed Veterans of America in Washington D.C.

NCOA, AFSA, AFA, AMVETS, American Legion, AUSA, AUSN, FRA, IAVA, and I'm sure a ton others. I'm not saying it doesn't have any merit, but each service has 3 or 4 at least, plus the ones that Sgt (Join to see), mentioned.

Sgt (Join to see) , TSgt David L. very good point about those already out there. Of course, there is no formal funding. But, the possibility has to start with the idea that RP has a diverse community of contributers who are stakeholders in one way or another, who have different perspectives on common issues. But, the question isn't so severe that negative wash needs to cover it because who can know out of over the 1,000,000 RP contributors which one can make a difference.

PO3 Phyllis Maynard - I agree. Like I said, I wasn't implying that your proposal has no merit. We have a large population, so I guess if we had someone that would represent RP to Congress ( COL Mikel J. Burroughs! LOL) then it might be worthwhile. There would have to be a way to see if there are issues we would want addressed and get a consensus of those issues and desired outcome. I'm sure there are many more considerations. I'm just saying it would take some work if RP decided to go with this.

Yes, TSgt David L. that is exactly where I was going. COL Mikel J. Burroughs is so diverse in his approach, he has outreach, he has the blog that is another forum, and he seems to be one of the Eagle Leaders who follow the conversations closely enough to know the concerns raised that are noteworthy to be heard in Congress Sgt (Join to see) . Having just one person with the qualities to summarize and present on our behalf with a companion set of 2 to mingle and talk about RP, I think should be something down the road to visit. There are so many critical thinking minds on this forum that have great things to say that needs to be heard . Recall when Oprah testified before Congress on child abuse, how the subject took on a life of its' own because she had and still has a voice people listen to. There are a great number of organizations talking to Congress, but who is to say there isn't an influencial voice on RP.
