A few months ago in a fitness discussion, I mentioned I was training for my first marathon. A few people wanted me to update how things were going. Since that discussion I some how ended up signing up for a 10K (which was last week) and a 5K (which was yesterday). The marathon is next week, APFT the week after that, and a casual get together (running) at a friends the week after that. I have named this five week stretch of runs "Runageddon". I did well at the 10K and 5K meeting my goals. I wanted to run under an hour for the 10K and ran 58:52. I wanted to run under 30 minutes for the 5K and ran 27:44. The goal for the marathon is to not die. I have decided to use the run/walk method for the marathon. By using a 4:1 run/walk, I have been able to run further and surprisingly post better times. I will update after the marathon.

Wow - I've either done the Swim or Bicycle since 2000 - my knees appreciate my change. I do remember when our CO did a triathlon a week before our PRT, the Command Fitness Leader told him that he would have waived him from running if the CO had let him know. Might not hurt to ask at the APFT if your marathon counts...

As of right now I will take the test. My 1SG is a marathon runner and has advised me to see how I feel after the marathon. If I'm hurting, he will probably let me opt out of the test. I passed an APFT in June and that is good for a year. Even so, it wouldn't be a problem to pass one in Dec.
