Actually the 181st IN is the oldest reg in the army. Dates back to 1636. It was British at first then turned into a US unit when the revolution happened.

Ahh, pardon sir. I should clarify. The oldest PROFESSIONAL infantry regiment in the FEDERAL Army. Constituted in 1784 as the First American Regiment after the disbanding of the milita based Continental Army.
