Senior enlisted promotions and prior UCMJ/GOMOR action. How will this effect FQ/NFQ for future evaluations?

I am at that critical point in my career where at the end of this contract I need to decide to jump ship, or stay for the long run. 6 years ago I made a big mistake a received a DUI as a private. No excuses for it. I received 45/45 and a GOMOR filed in my OMPF.
6 years later I am now waiting for points to promote to SSG, and as I look ahead in future career progression and ranks, I am concerned that my previous mistake will have a negative impact on FQ/NFQ decisions. As I understand it, two consecutive NFQ decisions will initiate a bar to reenlistment and cause a separation from continued service.
Am I wasting my time and setting myself up for failure and an eventual separation from service before I reach retirement? Thanks in advance.

Having a GOMOR will not cause you to have an NFQ. I know several people with GOMORs who have never received an NFQ. NFQ rating has much more to do with your performance during the rated period.
The board will review your GOMOR at every board until you have it moved to your restricted file. If it never gets moved, the board puts less importance on it the further in your past it is. You can request to have it moved to your restricted filed after you've been a SSG for a year.

Generally speaking, the centralized promotion board cares VERY little about what you did as a private. That GOMOR will be weighed against all of the stuff you have done since then. As long as you make sure all of the stuff since then is GOOD stuff, you SHOULDN'T have to worry about separation. Promotion MAY be a bit slower. It will really depend on MOS strengths and projections. If it is a year where they are only picking up 10 or 15, you will probably be out of luck. If they are picking up 100, then that GOMOR can be looked past.
