Shaw AFB? Any information on housing, units, life?

Shaw AFB? My branch manager offered me this duty assignment and I accepted it. I know nearly nothing except I believe Third Army (USARCENT) is there. What can I begin to expect as an Intelligence Analyst, young in my career here? Also, where would you recommend I live with my family of 5?

I've been there a few times during my time. unless it changed, the most important asset was the golf course and not the airfield.

I was stationed with ARCENT when they were in GA and I was TDY to shaw last May. The base is nice. Good luck to you and yours.

It's been many years but the last time I was there it was basically out in the middle of nowhere. not much to do off base.

I left Shaw in 1981, alot has changed. Base housing was good back then, don't know about now. If you like to fish or duck hunt, the Santee-Cooper area with lakes Marion and Moultrie are about 30 minutes away.
I enjoyed my time there and did s fair amount of fishing there.

Post housing on Shaw isn’t bad. As mentioned below there isn’t much to do off base. Just make sure that you check the areas prior to making a decision. Especially if you choose to live off base. Have you contacted housing at Shaw to get in the waiting list?
