Should an Officer wear a Driver's Badge that was earned while he was Enlisted?

I've seen the posts about Officers not wearing qualification badges relating specifically to weapons qual, how they should be experts of everything etc. etc., but I've never heard anyone specifically address the driver's badge. It isn't anything spectacular or anything to write home about, but it is a badge nonetheless and represents a specific knowledge and skill. Thoughts?

As a retiredArmy Personnel Warrant Officer, i can tell you that any awards, badges, and other qualifying skills that were listed on the Enlisted Personnel Record are required to be transferred automatically to the Officer Personnel Record without any further discussion.

The way I see it, yes. He or she earned it within their military career. So yes they should be able to wear it

Wore my enlisted decorations and badges proudly. Weapons, aircrew, missile, and vietnam service, campaign, etc. were on the DD214 and every thing there (authorized) was pinned or placed accordingly on class A's.

Capt Hastings Lamb III
Served 13 years as enlisted (promoted thru to E-6) and 10 years as officer (retired as 0-3, Capt.). After putting on butter bars, I got challenged several times for the Aircrew wings and Missile badge plus Vietnam service awards and usually carried a copy of my enlisted discharge DD214 to answer questions. Most LTs had little to no awards except ribbons for marksmanship or NDSMs at the time I was commissioned. The only badge I could not wear was my ATC Master Instructor badge from duties at Sheppard AFB since it was considered an ATC award and I was in SAC.

One of my Platoon Leaders who was enlisted, wore his NCO professional Development Ribbon on his Class A Uniform. So the answer to your question is yes they can.

The regulation does not prohibit the wear of those badges. However, it is Army tradition that officers don't wear them.

I could see that happening. A Colonel wearing a Marksman's badge might be a little demeaning.

COL Victor Hagan
Chief,
I've always fired expert with my assigned weapon. I also earned a Driver's Badge as a Cadet but I didn't wear either one because it is against our traditions.

CW3 Joseph Lawrence I've always qualified expert with my assigned weapons so I wouldn't know. But I wouldn't doing because it looks bush league. However, I laugh when I see Soldier with vanity plates with military awards on them. If you weren't awarded the Medal of Honor or Silver Star then big deal. It reminds me of those guys walking around town in their high school letterman jackets after graduation.

Very few enlisted badges carry forward to the officer ranks. I can't think of any. Medals and ribbons are a different story. My first ARCOM, my NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and my Good Conduct Medal all carried forward. I'm sure there are others. Times and regulations change. Some others may be authorized later.
