I know as a young NCO and still today, FM 7-22.7 was/is my favorite FM/TC. I have read it numerous times and always find something new I can use. With the new Doctrine 2015 campaign, I don't see any plan to incorporate it. I for one think it would be a shame to lose this reference...

What do you think?

SFC Stockton,

Your post did two things. One made me go back and pick up my copy of 7-22.7 to see if I still felt it was relevant and I do. Just as you said when I opened it up I read something that I didn't fully get the last time I had read it.

The second thing your post made me do was dig into this doctrine 2015. I have of course heard about; recently attended a board that was nothing but ADPs and ADRPs. I noticed what you are speaking of. Out of the 50 FMs that they say they are keeping the NCO guide is not one of them. Upon further checking it seems to me as if many of the very important FMs will not be included in the doctrine 2015 push. Where is the first aid, field sanitation, weapons, even the PRT FM is not there.

Maybe I am not reading this right and may not be fully understanding it. Please help me if I am not. I included the link for the usacac brief so everyone can see what I see.

Now to answer the original question. Yes we still need our NCO guide. I think we need it now more than ever. Could it use an update; sure why not. But some of those things are priceless. The stories of how those NCOs before put it all on line to accomplish the mission. The words of wisdom of past leaders that blazed the trail for us. You can not know where you are going until you know where you came from. We need this publication and we as leaders need to push it down to these new leaders. In fact first thing after the holiday I am going to find out how many of the young NCOs in my company even know what 7-22.7 is, and I am going to be checking for their copy of it.

Great post SSG. They regularly post updates on the CAC website, here: https://combinedarmscenter.army.mil/orgs/mccoe/cadd/adpd/docupdate/Forms/AllItems.aspx

FM 7-22.7 is currently under revision. Perhaps it is already headed towards the ADP/ADRP realm.

Tried ordering it recently for our NCO induction and was told strait from the publication agency that it is under revision.

I agree, I think we should always have TM's like this as we move forward, unless there is something to replace it.
