This just came up in the confirmation hearing for Gen. Mattis. Apparently there is already a plan in place to move this program forward.

They do. Kind of. Every year when they do their PHA at a Medical SRP.

The question should have been more clear. The proposal is for new recruits. Like a pre-screening

SSG Carlos Madden - Yes. I think all new recruits should undergo a more in depth eval than what the standard is currently. A few simple questions at MEPS, and as long as the right answers are given, they are a GO at that station. Clearly, the way the trend is now....it's not enough.

That should be a good thing to see how mentally fit a prospect soldier would be now that the draw down was happening and stringent enlistments are happening.

They gave a friend of mine a mental evaluation a couple weeks ago when he went up to the mayor's assistant and started humping her leg. Rather than arrest him, he told them he now self-identified as a Beagle, which explained why he grew his hair long, wore black and brown and white makeup on his face, had on a dog collar and a fur coat. Since this is Charlotte NC where you can be whatever you want to be, they gave him a mental eval and a box of milk bones and sent him home. He is in treatment now to implant hair all over places that should not have hair and they are trying to figure out how to surgically alter him to be able to lick his own back...God Bless America!

I think everyone should have regular physical and mental health evaluations. I know that would be expensive, however if the old adage that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is even remotely true... we could save a lot over the long term.
