Should I get married before or after my boyfriend does an overseas PCS? Could that decision alter his orders or impact our moving costs?

My boyfriend is in the AF currently stationed in Korea and he just got orders to England a few days ago. We have been talking about getting married for a while now, but him being in Korea makes that difficult now. He says we should get married a month before he leaves for England, because that is when he will be able to come home, but I am worried that could mess up his orders or get them canceled. However, I have been reading if we waited until after he PCSd my move there wouldn't be covered financially and i would have to ship my things separately. Please give advice!!

You can get married when you wish. It will not affect his assignment. You will be added to his orders after the fact provided you clear a medical evaluation he will have to submit for overseas assignments with military dependents. He can find the answers to all of this now.

My opinion.....don't make a decision that should be a life changer based on anything other than whether or not you are both committed to marriage. I have seen the effects of using a PCS move or an upcoming deployment as an excuse to rush into marriage only to see it fail.
Consider the following:
You will be living with someone you haven't been around for extended periods of time for several years. That can be an adjustment for both of you.
You will be living in a foreign country with no family or life-long friends nearby.
If you look at those 2 things and can seriously say you are ready, go for it.
And if you do get married while he is home, let him go first and get living arrangements settled.
Best of luck.

We have been together for 4 years and have lived together for about half of that. I have known I want to get married to him, the timing has just been difficult. Thank you for the advice though, always good to think about.

Regardless of when you get married, he will have to submit for command sponsorship. Once approved, they will pay for your flight
