Hey guys and gals,
I live about 10 miles away from my unit. We finish PT at 08 and start at 0930 with the traffic at the gate I’m not sure if I should head home after PT and shower change eat and head back or something else. If not that I don’t know where I’d shower and change. Help? Lol thanks!

As others have mentioned, using the post gym is your best bet. Make sure you pack all components of your uniform in the bag the night before. It wouldn’t hurt to have an extra PC and in the car either. I lived in the barracks when I was enlisted but I had to loan guys t-shirts are few time when they forgot them.

You probably don't have a desk yet, but hopefully a TA50 locker in the unit. I kept a spare set of undergarments and a hygiene kit - drawers, socks, Tshirt, towel, deodorant, mini bodywash (worked for shampoo, too) toothbrush, toothpaste, razor plus a belt in my desk, just in case I forgot something at home. Some of my peers just brought a week's worth in on Monday. Either plan is a good one for makingbsure you don't end up ate up.

Let's do some math. In ideal conditions, going 60mph, just travel time will be 20 minutes. It's more reasonable to assume an average of 30 mph, so let's double that time to 40 mins. Traffic issues and time to get into the gate, plus slow congested base traffic will likely push your home a car to an hour. That leaves very little wiggle room to eat, shower and dress.
When I was active, we had another accountability formation just before starting the work day, after PT. I bet your leaders will expect you to be there 10-15 mins early.
It's it possible to manage, possibly. It's it worth the stress, probably not. I am making some assumptions about your local situation. The only way to find out if it will work, is to try it, but be prepared for the consequences. I suggest finding others who commute and get their take on things. Let your squad leader know what you are doing so they can anticipate where you might be when it gets closer to. 0845 and you are not there

That’s exactly what I was thinking in terms of timeline.. thank you sergeant I’ll see what people do next week when I get in. Will plan on bringing my stuff with me for the first few days too.

The math is off. 60 mph means it would take 10 minutes, so double that would be 20 minutes. Regardless, it would be easier to just bring your stuff and shower and change at the post gym. You can bring your breakfast as well and heat it up in a microwave or go someplace on post.

SGT Chris Stephens I was considering the round trip. 10 miles to and back. 20 miles, 20 minutes.
