I left my old unit in November 2019. Ever since I left the old unit, I contact my 1SGT numerous of times about my PCS award, which is a ARCOM. Brigade lost my award when I left and my unit sent it back up to Brigade to sign the award. Now, I’m still trying to fight for my PCS award. Should I still fight for the award or forget about it?

I am still fighting for one from over a year ago. It’s the principal. You were put in for it and you deserve an outcome, wether it be approval, denial, or downgrade to an AAM. Not just oh sorry it was lost.

I'd make one inquiry with someone of responsibility, and that you trust. Beyond that, maybe a follow up. After that, just be patient and hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Yes, I had two ARCOMS downgraded to AAMs for this very reason (those pesky PCS awards). Why? Because once you PCS from a duty station, you're out of sight, out of mind. That's why it's important to know when the soldiers under your charge are PCSing so you can get them taken care of before they sign out of the unit for the last time. It saves so many headaches - and when I did have soldiers who worked for me, I always did this.

Yes you should SGT Salena, you've earned it, so don't give up. That's what they want you to do since your no longer within the unit. If you have someone of rank to correspond with back in your old unit, pls, do so if you trust them enough to support you. A while back when I was still in the military, I had PCS's from Korea to stateside and my Adjutant wanted to give me a down-grade from ARCOM to an AAM. Amazingly enough, I had a great PAC Supervisor, that had my best interest at heart, I will never forget him. My PAC Supervisor mailed my ARCOM to my home address. If it wasn't for him, the incompetent Adjutant we had, I would've gotten nothing. The Adjutant in my Brigade had short woman syndrome. Everyone that was taller and better looking than her, female wise was treated harshly. Get your Award, you deserve it, hopefully, you have someone back at you old unit with some rank to support you in this matter. Good Luck :-) .

If you aren't maxed out on promotion points for your eventual SSG board, then I would definitely fight for it. You wouldn't want those 20 points to be the reason you are below the cutoff.

If you aren't making headway, make sure to loop your current unit in.

Keep fighting. Write it up yourself for them to approve. Normally they are too busy to sit and write them. Do the hard work but get the reward.

“I submitted” my own PCS award during the first week of July 2019. I didn’t receive my PCS award until first week of January 2020

Contact the recommender of the award and/or your former company commander. If they are true leaders they should fight that fight for you.

Will it get you promotion points and help you to SSG? Only person that is going to fight for you is you and if this can help move your career forward, go after it with a vengeance. If it won't, you know what you did to earn it and what kind of soldier you are. That is important as well.

What is a PCS award? A medal for leaving your last duty station?
Is that real?

SFC Bernard Walko - it doesn't cheapen what you went above and beyond to produce in a shorter term. It really depends on what the Commander's award philosophy is as the ARCOM approval authority is delegated to the Brigade Command level from HQDA. They trust the O6 commanders to do that somit is really validation from that O6.

MSgt Michael Bischoff - Depends on rank and level of responsibility, could be an AAM, ARCOM, MSM, LOM, DSM, etc.
