Should official US documents be in English? Did you know immigration "welcome packets" come in 14 languages?

This is for legal immigrants? Permanent resident aliens?
Not tourists, right?
I don't see a problem. My understanding is that resident aliens come here with either a job waiting or a sponsor(family or spouse) and are legally treated as citizens-.
After reading the brochure, I think it should be assigned mandatory reading in seventh grade. There's a lot of good information in there. Legal obligations for aliens, how to lose resident alien status, how to pay your taxes, legal protections against discrimination, where to find medical insurance, how to call for emergency help, how to register with the selective service. At the end there is even a brief civics lesson on the history of the U.S. and the importance of learning English. Why wouldn't we want to be sure that immigrants clearly understand their rights and obligations when they get here?

I stopped going to Lowes because everything is labeled in Spanish and English. I live in NE Ohio.... The United States of America needs to adopt English as our official language. No if's and's, or buts about it...

I agree. The idea is to assimilate, the great melting pot.
