Obama had his Blackberry, Trump has Twitter, and the next President will be on whatever is the latest and greatest social media platform for a 45-80 year old person to be on.
The difference between Obama's Blackberry and Trump's Twitter is that Obama used his Blackberry (against the wishes of the Secret Service) for his "private communications". Trump's Twitter account is a "private" form of communication to the public. The problem with it is his open access to it removes another layer of brain to mouth filter that we expect from a head of state...I mean look at the Ramzan Kadyrov and his Instagram account.
Should Trump have access to his Twitter account while in office? Absolutely, however all communications should be managed and screened by his media advisor to ensure he is presenting himself in a manner suiting of a president. I image this will become more of an issue as time progresses and social media becomes a more ingrained aspect of our society in follow on presidencies.

Yes, social media is a great way to get the basic message out quickly and Citizens can then go to official .gov sites to get the entire scoop. There is no security threat because social media is not to be used for sensitive information just as the public side of .gov is not to be used for sensitive information. It is obvious that main stream media is not capable of an unbiased release of information.

Sure, at times they don't make sense, but social media like twitter and YouTube bypass the corrupt MSM. I liked the 100 day plan totally bypassing them.

It is one of many tools that will allow him to communicate directly to people without the rotten media filters. It is only one. He will still have to have press conferences and do SOU addresses and other more traditional means of communication. He may want to filter it a little more actively but I think it makes him look less like a politician.

Obama himself has a Twitter account, why can't Trump? I'm sure they don't send out their Tweets themselves.

They have aides sometimes, but any tweet made by them personally is usually marked. Trump claims to write his own tweets.
