The challenges of doing the job of a Ranger haven't changed so why should training. Quit label us as "male soldiers" and "female soldiers". The term is "Soldier" and I think it should be one standard for all Soldiers in any school/training. Don't lower the standards to meet the desired numbers. I don't have a problem with women in combat but I want to fight next to someone that is as highly trained and as physically capable of doing what I do. I say no, don't change the standards. So when she makes it through Ranger school, she will be called a Ranger...not a Female Ranger.

Well said. I agree that it should be one standard across both sexes, and that standard should be what's currently the male standard. My views on gender issues are radically different between the civilian world and the martial. Our enemies aren't going to treat our women any different in combat so why should we train our women any different and allow inferiority out of them?

NO! As a Combat Engineer I have served with Female officers who have led Route Clearance Platoons they have completed all their soldiers tasks and have excelled in those situations. Their have been females completing Sapper School since 2000 and their standards haven't been changed. I feel females can pass it without changing any standards.

I agree 1SG Haro. I had 2 Engineer Captains go threw my SLC Class. 1 of the females absolutely sucked!!! However the other female was AMAZING!! She could pitch an OPORDER like a professor in college. She was a PT Stud and had Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder. She was going to be taking command of the Engineer Search and Rescue unit in DC. I don't know why so many men seem to believe that there are no females out there who can complete Ranger School. I guess I cant say much Because im not a Ranger... however I am very much looking forward to that first Ranger Tab being pined on a Female.

Creating a separate inferior set of standards for women would only serve to diminish that individuals quality of training and the respect any female tab recipient would get after earning it.

"Oh sure, you've got the tab, but you didn't REALLY earn it like everyone else."

Coming from a guy who's never been to Ranger School, I thought the entire idea of it was to push you somewhere between beyond your limits and death. That it was meant to prepare you for combat leadership by teaching you where your TRUE limits are. To me, that doesn't sound like it's something that can be half assed, and I'm pretty sure combat doesn't set different standards for women.

Aside from the hygiene issues, do you think that because females are genetically at a physical disadvantage and because of this, some of the standards should be adjusted? I get combat is combat, but is doing 10 pull-ups going to be the deciding factor?

Absolutely not! To be a Ranger, you should have to meet the Ranger standard. If you do not meet the Ranger standard you are simply a person wearing a Ranger tab because other people changed the standard so you could wear it....

MSG (Join to see), absolutely not. To be an Infantryman, Ranger, Etc, has standards. Nothing should change. If you're a grunt, do you want your squad leader to hold that position because they were able to meet a lower standard than you met to be a Team Leader? No, I think not. See my point? It's like this....Most Ranger School slots currently go to officers or officer candidates. Let's say that tomorrow, DA decides that women can be Infantry. I'm cool with that [IF] my PL can do everything I can do. If not...well then...go lead someone that is within YOUR range of standards.

Let me carry this one step further. As an Infantry NCO, when I would get a new LT, one of the first things I would look for is a Ranger Tab. Why? Because it would tell me that in spite of a lack of experience, that he had done something that a) I hadn't done, and b)not everyone can do. Is that wrong? I don't know...maybe, but not likely. All I'm saying is this: It means a lot more to some than just a uniform accouterment. It takes fortitude. Lowering the standard would ABSOLUTELY cheapen it.

No. Just like Sapper school. If you want the Tab you have to earn it with same standards regardless of gender, age, or rank.

What you do for one should be done for all in most cases. Though I think the standards shouldn't be lowered, the standards eventually will be for women. And if you lower the standards for women, the standards for the men ought to be lowered. And as you lower the standard, there is the increased chance of a group of soldiers less able to complete their mission.

Absolutely not. Would the standards be lowered for sub standard men? I have no problem with women in combat roles, however they need to perform to the same level of the male soldiers in the unit. If you allow someone who cannot carry the same amount of equipment as everyone else you force the other members to cross load and carry more then they should have to. Causing more strain than is necessary on other members.

Exactly! We've all been taught from day one about the chain (team) being only as strong as the weakest link. That theory has nothing to do with gender, it's simply the foundation of a teamwork attitude. If standards were lower the weakest link, male or female, would make us all weaker.

Yes absolutely, but only if the TAB awarded is Pink.

NO, of course not... but since nobody asked me, and those pushing social engineering are more interested in looking like they are doing something positive, vice DOING something positive, things will likely be slanted for success.

I know the Soldier in the picture. She was my platoon sergeant at Fort Bliss, TX for a short time.
