Any soldier failing anything on purpose should be punished. The EIB should be sought after by all grunts in peacetime. On another note it's difficult for soldiers who have the CIB to really grasp the need for a EIB because they understand it cannot be worn once it's awarded and leadership needs to impress the importance of the training and what it does for promotions at the DA level showing that he has continued to advance in the Infantry.

No, they are not dumb. People have their reasons........ Plus the EIB is a nerve racking rigorous event especially if you fail the 12 mile road March by 1 minute.

I have seen a lot of remarks on failing an APFT but this is about failing the EIB PT Test which requires 80 points or more in each event. Literally, someone could get a 279 on the PT test and fail for EIB. 100 points for PU, 100 for SU, and 79 on the run. Now if they are failing Army standards, then some sort of action could be taken but not a lot you can do if someone gets a 279...that's a good score.

That is a unit policy and decision..not an USAIS PAMPHLET 350-6 requirement. The Reg allows the unit to let them continue or stop at 80... the only reason to stop is if your working to improve the flow of the SM though the process.
" While units can allow Candidates to execute push-ups and sit-ups beyond the 80 points requirement of their age group, they may also stop Candidates once the minimum requirement of 80 points has been reached, as this will reduce the time required to test all Candidates."

If they fail the PT test or EIB they suffer one way or another. EIB is not required but good for career and failing a PT test will get you flagged. I could purposely fail a PT test and make it look like I tried. No way you could prove I wasn't trying.

SPC Anthony Schepis "How do you prove that someone failed on purpose?"
Commonly its something like tester and timer say GO and the SM does 2 reps of push ups, snaps to attention and shouts "FTA" or "Im short" "Im out of here" ect ect ect

If they fail on purpose they get flagged anyways. What would be proper punishment if someone did this?

SFC Griffis - You should have told this information up front when posting your question - "I agree it's only for the few but last time we did EIB over 300 failed the pt test. Most stopped before 2 min were up."
Your statement indicates that the unit whether it is at the battalion level, brigade, or even division, there is a major leadership problem. This is something that needs to be addressed in a completely different manner than just punishing the troops or remedial training.
Another thing that would also help in giving advice on this - Is this unit getting ready to deploy, or did it just come back from a deployment?
These soldiers that failed, are they also holders of the CIB? If they are, this can also be a sign of poor or incompetent leadership, especially if it is an active duty unit (which I am presuming that it is).
Either way it appears that there is a lot of work for both the soldiers and the leaders (both NCO and Officer) in this unit whether it is a battalion, brigade, or division. I know one thing, the CSM's have a lot of work ahead of them.

I agree with you and I am betting CIB prima-donnaism has taken hold with full encouragement of the leadership. Which would be a sad state of affairs if that is the case, so I hope am wrong.

What comprises the eib pt test and what are the standards.
I tested for the eib over thirty years ago. I vaguely remember I failed to receive it because of some question you answered out of the book but somehow failed anyway

PFC Lisa McDonald - When I tested there were 17 things you had to pass (1962). Three of us out of about 600 made the cut. Back then infantry units were organized in to battle groups.

It is the standard APFT, and you must pass with 80% or better in your age group. (NOTE 1: as females can now be Infantry, I do not know if they have made policy as to if the candidates use both age and gender tables of just the male standards. NOTE 2, as there are currently Transgender SM serving openly, I do not know if policy has been made as to what gender standard a M to F Trans SM would use..)

Once the soldier has legally changed their sex the pt standard should match that sex.
Personally I think there should be one standard for combat arms male or female applicable to all ages.
I think other non-combat mos's could have far lower pt standards and attract a much larger and better qualified pool of candidates. Especially in technology fields.

I personally do not believe the use of lgbt labels is constitutional at any level of government.
